Health, Love & Fire: 2013

I'll miss you

Saturday, December 28, 2013

I just wanted to take a minute to let you all know that I will probably be MIA for a few days. The day after Christmas we lost an amazing man. My father inlaw had been sick on and off for a while, but it still came as a shock to have to say goodbye. The next few days I'll be focusing on family and helping be there for my husband and mother inlaw as we get through this difficult time. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

So thankful for the time we got with him and the memories we shared!

The time I decided to move in . . . .

Monday, December 23, 2013

I hope you didn't hop on here today looking for a post about my first house or tips for moving because what I am going to talk about it much more exciting and far more unrealistic. So yesterday I was looking through my instagram at one of my favorite bloggers Samantha Elizabeth who just happened to be at one of my favorite stores and it reminded me of a post I had been planning to write for a while now. Why I want to move in to Anthropologie . . . . yes the store!

Every time I step foot in that store I wish to myself that I could just move in and call it home. I literally fall in love the moment I walk in, and instantly feel my bank account dwindling. And since I can barely allow myself to spend $36 on a candle, I figure the next best solution is to just move in! Now I know what you're thinking, they don't have food or a bathroom or a kitchen in that store, and there are a lot of issues with my becoming a permanent resident, but fear not . . . . I have totally thought these things through!

The store near our house also happens to be located in an upscale shopping center so many of the issues mentioned above can be easily fixed. For my food I have choices like California Pizza Kitchen, Quadoba, and Whole Foods just steps away. And with it being a large shopping center, there are tons of public restrooms all over. I may have to look in to the shower situation, but there's also a Club Sport and 24 Hour Fitness nearby, so I figure I can find a shower somewhere. If worst comes to worst, there's a fountain at the shopping center entrance I could use with some bubble bath at night once everyone goes home.

As far as everything else, the store has it. From candles to clothes, bedding to dishes, the store has everythingI need. I can host parties with fabulous d├ęcor and china, all provided to me by the decorators and inventory. I would obviously have to wait until after the store closes, but we could go to dinner or a movie nearby. And by inviting more people in to the store, they would be getting more advertisement of their products, and I am obviously such a trendsetter so after they saw my amazing stuff, everyone would want it. Win for me, win for them!

The store has a home section where they showcase their bedding, and in order to do that they have a bed so I have somewhere to sleep. It’s only a twin bed, so Dan wouldn’t have much room, but he sleeps at the station a third of the time anyways, so I don’t see that being much of a problem. They have throw pillows and curtains too, so I can create my own fort and pile of bedding to sink in to and fall asleep and let Dan have the bed if he wants.

I wouldn’t have to worry about rent, utilities, or maintenance because the store already has to manage those things. And since I would be brining so much added income to their location due to my walking advertisement, I’m sure they would be willing to cover those expenses for me.

I would need to figure out what to do with the pets . . . this is the one issue I have run in to. It wouldn’t be too hard to hide the cats who would probably just look like they were part of the display, sleeping in the window or on one of the soft throw blankets for sale. The dog would be the struggle. With Coopers high energy and need to greet every person he see’s, we may have to take him to doggy day-care while the store’s open each day. Even though that would be a large expense, the money I’m saving on rent and everything else would definitely offset this.

So see . . . I have this figured out! All I have to do is sell my house, sell all my belongings, find a doggy day-care, and convince Dan! No problem! Please tell me I’m not completely insane and someone else has dreamed about doing this very same thing. What store would you want to move in to if you could?

Cheers To A New Year: July, August & September

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Its week three and I am still loving this link-up! I've loved reading other posts about your year and finding new awesome blogs to follow! This week we are on to July, August, and September. While I am writing this earlier than Thursday, I always look forward to December 19th because it's my birthday! So while you're all reading everyone's highlights from their July, August, and September, I'll be over here spending time with my family and celebrating me! :)

July:
This July was a fairly uneventful month, but was filled with lots of friend time. Each year we spend the 4th of July at the local rodeo. Its one of the largest in the country and a tradition we look forward to every year. I am so thankful to have friends who are more like family, and I love this time of year because we all spend so much time together!

August:
This month was all about running and training. Dan and I had been working for the past 8 months to fundraise and raise money for the American Cancer Society with our team members from our Hood To Coast team. Hood to Coast is a 299 mile relay race where you and 11 other team members run from Mt Hood to the Oregon Coast. It took our team a little under 31 hours to complete the entire relay. Not only did our team accomplish the amazing task of running 299 miles, but we also raised over $18,000 for the American Cancer Society. It was an amazing experience and I am so excited that we get to do it again next year!

Our van - runners 7-12!!

Dan and I right before I started my first leg

Us at the beach at the finish line!

Our entire team - Team Proud To Be Roadkill!

After running Hood To Coast, I was crazy enough to also sign up for a half marathon with my parents a week later. I was surprised at how much easier this race felt after running up mountains and completing a total of 17 miles for Hood To Coast. This race was fun to complete with my parents and even better because you got to wine taste at the end! This is the second year I have run this same event and I hope to do it again next year along with Dan this time!

September:
In September we got to celebrate my parents and their anniversary by spending a weekend away at the beach together. If you haven't noticed yet, we love how close we live to them and are so thankful to get to spend so much time together! This weekend trip was the perfect getaway and a fun break from work and reality a bit. We walked on the beach, got to see a pod of whales, played games, read books, drank wine, and just enjoyed each other's company! It was the perfect way to celebrate an amazing couple!

Well I hope you all enjoy my birthday :) and join me next week for my final look back on the year!

26 + 100 = December 19th!

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Since tomorrow is my 26th birthday and since I already have my scheduled link-up with one of my favorite ladies for the Cheers To A New Year linkup, I thought I would do a little birthday post in honor of the special day tomorrow. I am truly blessed with some amazing friends and family. With new jobs, lots of traveling, starting this blog, and more time with my amazing husband this past year has been a really great one. I’m excited to celebrate tomorrow with my family and enjoy the one day of the year that I can be goofy, drink as much wine as I want, and get spoiled with gifts (okay maybe I do that more than just on my birthday)!

Another exciting thing about tomorrow is that it will be my 100th blog post. I’d love to say that I planned it out so that my birthday and my 100th post would land on the same day, but I am definitely not that organized! This blog has been a fun thing to come to every day and an awesome way to be inspired by some other amazing women! I look forward to hundreds of more posts and many more new friends along the way!

So while i'm off celebrating me and my blog, I hope everyone else has a fabulous December 19th

Photo Booth Fun - Goofy Picture Overload

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

If you read my post yesterday, you know that we hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this weekend. This was our third year hosting this party and our third year creating a photo booth. I swear it never gets old and the pictures are better and better each year! All you need is a camera that has a timer on it, some fun props, and a some goofy friends! Each year we add more and more props for people to have fun with. I was surprised no one grabbed dan's fire helmet that's sitting in our office for some of the pictures. We had about 20 people over and nearly everyone took turns taking goofy pics. I'm thinking of turning all the different pictures from the last few years into an album of photo book to keep and look back on and laugh. (You'll probably notice one person in the majority of them) Sorry for the picture overload, I love them all and couldn't pick just a few! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

And the last picture of the night . . . my goofy husband!

Have you hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party before? What are some fun additions you've included that your guests love?
