Marathon Weekend Wrap Up

Monday, October 7, 2013

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was a dry, crisp, fall weekend here which made it really nice to spend some time outdoors.

Saturday morning Dan and I headed to the community garden/farm we are a part of to put in some of our hours. The farm we belong to has a few different options for families and couples. You can either pay $50 per adult for the summer term and get an allotment of produce every week, or you can pay $12 and work 12 hours per adult and get all the produce you want for 5 months. We decided we wanted to be able to work for some of our food and get larger quantities to can with so that's what we've been doing. We only have a couple hours left to work, but it's been a great experience and one we will definitely do again next year.

Saturday afternoon we headed to Portland to pick up Dan's race packet for the Marathon on Sunday. We spent the rest of the day relaxing and hanging out with good friends.

Sunday was an early morning for a day off! Dan and I were up at 4am to get ready and head to the city for the run. The Portland Marathon has about 15,000 participants and starts at 7am, so Dan wanted to be able to get there with some time to spare to make sure he made it to the right starting point. It was so much fun to watch and cheer him on. I was able to cheer for him at mile 2, 3, 6, 11, 18, 21, and 26. I was glad I got to meet up with him so many places and be able to give him protein bars and motivation along the way. I am so proud of him! I really wanted to make a sign that said "My husband saves lives and runs marathons, what does yours do?" haha....but I didn't. Instead I made one that said "WTF?!? Where's The Finish?". People seemed to like it, and it helped make people smile along the way.

We spent the rest of the day relaxing and resting....after 26.2 miles, I don't know how Dan stayed awake!

Hope everyone has a good week! Just a couple more hours of the work day & then I can head home and relax (this cheerleader is tired)!
