Ugly Sweaters Here, Sweaters There, Sweaters Everywhere!

So Dan and I, along with the rest of the world hosted a Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this past Saturday.  I always feel silly since I am almost 26 hosting my own birthday parties, so instead we host an ugly sweater party each year right around my birthday. Growing up with my birthday so close to Christmas, I used to hate when anything Christmas was involved in my birthday. I wanted the two to be two completely separate occasions. Now that I am older and my love for Christmas has grown even larger, I decided that it was okay to combine the two. (as long as none of my birthday presents are wrapped in christmas paper) #sorryimnotsorry.

My husband (or Martha Stewart as some people call him) is super crafty and creative. I was blessed with someone who is not only a hero to people in our community, but he sews, cooks, cleans, makes his own beer and wine, and builds stuff. He's a catch! Each year he tries to throw the best party for me he possibly can, and he never disappoints! His food is always a hit, and just perfectly finishes off the party!

This year, I got it in my head that I wanted a cake for my party. Going with the theme, Dan and I decided to try to make our own Ugly Christmas Sweater cake. Between my Dad and Dan (and my supervision of course) our vision came to life! The lady at the cake store was pretty sure we were crazy and there was no way we were going to be successful.  Well in my opinion, we showed her! For our first time ever using fondant, I was super happy with how it turned out! Take that cake lady!

We recreated one of our favorite appetizers from last year's party, the snowman cheese dip! Isn't it just the cutest!

We also enjoyed a meat and cheese platter, a veggie tray (in a christmas tree shaped tray of course) and an assortment of holiday drinks! With many people either being the designated driver for their significant other or just not wanting to drink any alcohol, I created a hot apple cider and then provided different mix-ins for people to create their own drinks. It was a fun way to let people try different combinations and cater to all different tastes!

We had such a fun time with friends! We set up a photo booth in front of our smaller tree for people to have fun with! We've done the photo booth the last few years and have added a few different props each year. People always have a blast and the results are hilarious! Check back tomorrow for all those fun pictures! Here's a sneak peak!
