I know I've talked about this before, but when you marry a firefighter you get more than just in-laws, you also get an entire extended family in the fire department. And this video totally shows that. I love how not only was the department and the rest of his crew involved in this surprise, but so was the school she teaches at.
It got me thinking about the day we got engaged over five years ago. It was on our two year anniversary of dating. We had taken a trip to the beach for the weekend to celebrate and enjoy time together. Even though I was pretty sure he was going to propose while we were there, it wasn't until halfway through our walk on the beach one evening that it hit me that this could be the moment I had been hoping for!
We decided to take an afternoon walk before getting ready for dinner that night. We walked and talked about our future, holding hands and reminiscing about the last two years together. Dan kept mumbling his words and repeating how much he cared for an loved me. After standing for a while and listening to him repeat himself, I asked if we could go sit down on the rocks because my legs were getting tired of standing. Finally as we reached the rocks (not his plan, he wanted it to be on the beach), he found his words, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was just us, and absolutely perfect.
That night we went out to a fancy dinner and celebrated two amazing years and a lifetime ahead. When we got back to our room, there were chocolates and two dozen red roses waiting for me (one for each month we had been together), along with a bottle of champagne. We drank wine and called our family and closest friends to share our exciting news. With all of the public engagements and youtube videos, it can be easy to wish you had it taped to watch forever or your friends and family could share that moment with you, but I love that it was just us, at our favorite place, and something that we could share just the two of us.
This video made me thankful for the firefighter I married and the fire department family I gained. I love how everyone was so excited for this sweet couple. With all the sad and scary stories you see on the news every day, it's videos like this that bring light to the love and happiness we are able to share with others.
How did you get engaged? I would love to hear your engagement story!
