I'm On A Boat - Vacay Part 1

Monday, March 17, 2014

As promised, I wanted to share our amazing vacation with all you fabulous readers! We had been planning this trip since August, even before Dan’s Dad got sick, so needless to say all the planning and daydreaming made me a little bit excited! I’m going to do a few posts on our trip, so I don’t bore you to death. To start with, I will share the beginning of our trip and some info on our ship.

We have been on a Carnival Cruise before, and were a little let down from our last vacation, so we were a bit nervous to see how this ship would compare. We would spend the next seven days on the Carnival Conquest. This is an older ship that was just recently refurbished. I was pleasantly surprised with how much bigger and nicer this ship was than the last. The second we walked into our Balcony Cabin, I was so thankful that we had decided to upgrade just a few days earlier.

(Side note: if you’re willing to take a chance, book the cabin you would be willing to settle for such as an ocean view, and then a few days before your trip, check to see if there are any upgraded rooms available. We saved over $500 on upgrading to a balcony because we waited till just a few days before setting sail.) Here's a view from our balcony of the beautiful sunset one night!

The ship had two main dining rooms, one for any time dining (meaning you can go to dinner whenever you want) and one for reserved where you choose from two different times to eat. We choose to eat at the reserved dining room because we enjoy getting paired with other people on the cruise and getting to know new couples. Carnival did a great job of pairing us with three other couples that were similar in age to us and traveling just the two of them. We got to know two of the couples really well and may have enjoyed a night or two of gambling, dancing, and tequila shots.

There were also several other dining options on board including a Guys Burgers, a Mexican spot with tacos and burritos, and then the buffet. It was nice to have several options for food including a 24 hour pizza station and 24 hour ice cream station – thankfully I only indulged in these a couple times and returned home weighing the same as when I left.

One of the amenities that Dan enjoyed the most on the ship was the water slide. Give this boy a toy and he will be content all day long!

I was really happy with the ship we choose. And would absolutely book a balcony again. Here are some random photos of the rest of the ship.

It was really nice to have a spot of our own to watch the ship come and go from each port and be able to enjoy a bit of alone time in the sun. Each of the ports we went to was amazing and I can’t wait to share more pictures of our fun off the ship!
