Friday night I went to happy hour with a friend who I haven't seen in a while. Her husband and mine used to be a part of the same fire department, but he ended up getting a job a one a couple towns over. Since they now work different shifts and we don't attend the same functions anymore, I haven't seen her in a long time. It was so nice to catch up, drink a strawberry sangria and enjoy some relaxing girl time!
Dan got off shift saturday morning and came home to snuggle in bed for a little while. We had a crazy weekend ahead, so I knew if I wanted to enjoy any of it with him I better have some plans already in mind. We decided to get up and head to a local nature refuge and take a nice 3 mile walk to start the day. It was really nice to get away from our phones and business of life and just enjoy a quite walk together and talking through our week.
Since our minds are pretty preoccupied with our house adventure we went to look through some open houses at the Ultimate Open House events going on around Portland. It was fun to take a look at other new houses to get ideas for our own!
The rest of the afternoon was spent down at the fire department getting ready for the pancake breakfast which was the next day. Dan has been in charge of the breakfast the last 7 years, which means lots of extra time outside of work planning and organizing this time of year. The breakfast raises about $10,000 for the fire department's toy & joy program.
Saturday evening we celebrated my Dad's birthday with my whole family. It was really neat to be enjoying dinner with my parents, husband, brother and his girlfriend. It really felt like our family was complete, and I hope that his girl friend stays around for a long time!
We were up at 4am and at the station by 4:30. Nearly 1400 people were served pancakes, eggs, and sausage. It's always a nice reminder of how much of a family the fire department is at events like this. And it always reminds me just how proud of my husband I am!
We didn't leave the department till nearly 3pm so it was a rush home to rest for an hour before heading to a friend's house for dinner.
It was a whirlwind of a weekend and one that left me feeling pretty exhausted, but I'm glad we were able to fit everything in! Now here's to hoping I can sneak in a nap after work tonight! What did you do this weekend?
