Breaking My Routine, Forcing Myself To Have More Fun

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

I tend to be a creature of habit. Okay I'll stop lying, I AM a creature of habit. I enjoy my routine of going to work every day, coming home around 6, having dinner with Dan (if he's not working) and then relaxing the rest of the night by either going for a walk, playing a game or watching tv. I'm in bed by 9:30 or 10 and happily asleep a little after that. I live a thrilling life. But last week, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did something different after work!

A couple weeks ago a friend of mine had asked if I wanted to go to a concert with her. I didn't really think about what day of the week it was on or what time the concert was at, I just said yes. Well turns out that concert was a Tuesday night and the main act didn't start till 9:30, basically the time I like to be getting to sleep. So what did this mean, it meant that I didn't get my exhausted butt in bed until nearly 2am . . . WAY passed my bed time, especially on a school work night! (about 5 hours passed to be exact) Needless to say I was pretty tired the rest of the week, but I was definitely glad I went!

The concert was One Republic and The Script. It was at the Sleep Country Amphitheater which has an outdoor option for tickets so we were able to bring our blankets and lay out in the grass under the stars to enjoy the concert. It was a fun night out with girlfriends and something I absolutely need to do more often! The music was awesome, the company was great, and it definitely has me wanted to go to more summer shows (even if they do keep me up way too late)! If you get the chance to go see either of these groups in person, I highly recommend it, plus the outdoor venue didn't hurt either. I love spending time with my friends, but sometimes I seem to forget that and think that relaxing on my couch sounds better, which it totally isn't (most of the time). This summer I am making myself get out more and enjoy all the fun things going on with all my favorite people! While I may be tired the next day rest of the week, the memories and fun I have will make up for all of it! (Someone please just keep reminding me of this)

(Sorry the pics aren't great, I only brought my iPhone)

Do you know of any fun summer shows in the Portland area? What concerts or events are you looking forward to this summer? (Please tell me I'm not the only one who enjoys being in bed by 9!)

  3. I was just talking about this last night. I went to a Red Sox game, while I had a blast, I definitey stayed out past my normal bed time. I like to be in bed by 10. I'm glad you had fun, and it's always good to stay out a little late sometimes.

  4. How fun!! Our routines sound pretty much the same. It's nice to throw something new in the mix though, isn't it?!

  5. Sounds like fun! I love concerts, especially outdoor ones in the summer! I totally know what you mean about having a routine, I am the same way. My husband and I actually went to a concert last night (Burno Mars) and didn't get home till late too, so I am all thrown off today!
