What's Cooking Good Looking?

Monday, August 11, 2014

One of the first appointments we have to make in this whole home building process is to pick out our kitchen cabinets. The first thing that drew us to the floor plan we choose was the open concept living and kitchen. I love the idea that one of us can be in the kitchen cooking dinner while the other one is sitting in front of the fire reading or watching tv (preferably me) but that we are still close by and still feel connected, especially when we are entertaining guests. Our kitchen was the one room in our current house we were really unhappy with, so it was important to us to create a space we would love in our new place.

The first thing I notice when I look at a kitchen is the cabinets. I've been googling, pinteresting, looking through windows of partially constructed homes going to home shows and open houses, and taking every advantage I can to get lots of ideas for the cabinets and decor for our new kitchen. The company we are using for the cabinets is local and they do fantastic work, but apparently everyone in our area agrees because they are booked out for about the next 8 weeks. This means we have to make all of those decisions as soon as possible. Lucky for them and for me, the kitchen cabinets have been one of the things we've spent the most time talking about and looking at. Here are some of my favorite looks. Let me know which one's you love the most :)

One: All White

Two: Dark Walnut

Three: Painted Grey

Four: Cream with Darker Contouring

Five: White Cabinets with Dark Wood Island

Alright, now it's your turn to help us decide. Pick your favorite number or leave suggestions and favorites. And while I may have a favorite or a couple favorites, I'm still excited to hear your thoughts! We are so excited to be able to design everything ourselves and be able to share our choices and final vision with all of you!

  1. Love these choices! I think the dark walnut would be my choice, and then you can lighten it up with backsplash etc. White in a kitchen tends to show ever single little smudge, which can be an annoying lol. (although that white with dark island is kinda awesome)

  2. I love #2 and #3 - anything woodsy/rustic speaks straight to my heart. Good luck with all of your decisions!

  4. Love them all!! I've always been a big fan of all white cabinets, but recently I've gotten into a darker, painted cabinet. I really love, love, love the grey cabinets! So chic and pretty. My top two choices are #1 and #3, but I really do love them all!

  5. I'm more naturally drawn to #5, but grubby cabinet doors (which in my house are inevitable) happen quite a lot with white. If I was remodeling/building again, I'd go with the grey or cream.

  7. I'm pretty partial do dark wood... So if you have a lot of light in your kitchen, I'd do that. Looks expensive! If not, my second choice would be the white. Lets the light in, and it makes it look really clean.

  8. Hello visiting from Facebook blogging it forward! I love all of these sample pics! but my faves are #1 and #5 I like the clean look of white! and adding color if wanted with accent pieces. I know I am very indecisive so having a blank canvas to change up when I get bored (which is quite often ahaha) is nice to have! good luck!

  9. I'm going with painted grey. We just built a home too, so exciting and fun, but so stressful. Good luck!

  10. I love all of your ideas! We currently have white kitchen cabinets. I LOVE the look of white cabinets, but let me tell you, keeping them clean can be tough, and we don't have kids yet! I feel like I constantly have to wipe them down...from something spilling, or splattering from cooking, or just dirt/dust built up in the corners, etc. But like I said, I love how white cabinets look, so I'm willing to keep with the cleaning :)

  11. I really like the dark walnut! But also the last one with white and the wood island. Your kitchen is going to be beautiful either one you pick!
