When our home was getting close to complete and my daily drive bys became multiple daily drive bys, there was only one home decision I immediately regretted, the front door. Picking out paint colors for the exterior had been a decision I had gone back and fourth on over and over again. It's easy to like a paint swatch that's 2in by 2in, but an entirely different story when that paint color is going to cover an entire 2300 square foot home. So when I drove by to check out the color for the first time, I was surprised to find that I loved every color choice except for the front door. I should have taken a photo of it before we had the color tinted a couple shades darker and had the door repainted, but I didn't want photo evidence of my barbie light blue door. Once it was repainted and tinted darker, I couldn't be happier with the accent and pop of color it adds to the front of the house! My goal was to have a home that looked cheerful and inviting, and I think that's just what our porch says!
One of my favorite parts about the porch is the wood paneling and decent sized covered area that allows us to sit outside and read or relax even if it's raining. We had the choice of a few different front facades but choose this one because of the larger covered porch it provided and I'm so happy with our decision.
With my love for baseball and all things rustic and antique, I tried to bring a little bit of our home decor style to our front porch. I just had to have the home place welcome mat when I found it on uncommon goods and I've slowly added to my wooden crate collection over time and love the addition they make to the porch.
Last weekend I added a couple ceramic pots and some plants to add a bit of color and springy feel and I have to say, it makes me smile every time I pull in the driveway!
Well there's our little entry way and one of the first spots in our new home that we absolutely love. What have you added to your entry or porch to make it feel like home?
