Our Vegas Babymoon

Thursday, May 28, 2015

When Dan and I found out we were pregnant, I knew one of the things I wanted to do before our new baby came was to take a vacation with just the two of us. Our usual travel picks have something to do with warm weather, pool time and good food so when trying to decide where to go, Vegas seemed like as good a place as any. We would be able to lounge by the pool during the day and go out to a show or two and some nice dinners in the evening. It also didn't hurt that airline tickets and hotel reservations are usually on the cheaper side in Vegas so it made booking the trip that much easier! We  (and by we I mean I) booked the trip back in January, so by the time May rolled around we were more than ready for a break from work and a little getaway together!

We flew out Tuesday evening after I got off work, and of course a picture including the PDX carpet was a must. Not sure what it is about Portland, but we have some weird tendencies, including idolizing an airport carpet.
Our feet, the PDX carpet and of course my ever growing baby bump!

We got in late Tuesday evening and headed straight to our hotel after getting our rental car, this gal was not going to have to hike all over Vegas the entire time we were there. We decided to try out two different hotels during out trip so we stayed at MGM for the first two nights and Mandalay Bay for our second two. We were shocked after checking in (right in front of Calvin Harris) at MGM and asking if they had any higher floor rooms with a view available or any complementary upgrades, we were upgraded to the most expensive suite in the hotel. We just walked around our room for about 20 minutes taking it all in and looking at each other in shock before finally settling down. Here are just a few photos of our 1300 square foot room and the amazing view and patio.

We spent Wednesday getting breakfast at our favorite spot (the Creperie at The Paris), spending some time by the pool at MGM, taking a nice afternoon nap and then getting ready and heading out for the evening!
That night we had reservations at Olives which is a restaurant that overlooks the fountains at the Bellagio. The food was delicious, the restaurant was gorgeous and the view was beautiful! I would definitely recommend this to others and we will definitely go back on our next trip! After dinner we watched a fountain show, walked around the Bellagio and then headed to Cirque De Sole's O show. The show was absolutely amazing and aside from our little girl kicking and moving the entire time (clearly she liked the show too) and the fact that we got tickets to the late show so I was struggling to stay awake, we both had a fabulous night!

Thursday we had to switch hotels to Mandalay Bay, which we were honestly sort of regretting after getting such an amazing room at MGM. We were sure we would probably never stay in another room quite like that one, and we didn't really want to leave. So we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, took our time getting ready and packing up and enjoyed the patio a bit more before checking out.

We checked in to Mandalay Bay around noon and headed to the pool for a while. Of course our afternoon also consisted of another nap before getting ready for dinner. Lately I've been taking all the naps I can! We had reservations at Mixx at the Delano which is part of Manadalay Bay. The restaurant is on the top floor of the building and has gorgeous views and beautiful decor.

After dinner we decided to head down the strip and check out the Wynn since we hadn't been to that hotel before. We walked around, checked out the hotel, enjoyed a drink (or Dan did) and then headed back to our hotel.

Friday we spent the morning at the pool and then decided to walk around the strip a bit. We ate lunch (more than once on the trip) at the Shake Shack at NyNy. Anytime I can get some frozen custard that reminds me of growing up in Upstate New York I am all over it! We took the tram to a few different hotels and enjoyed a little sightseeing. For dinner that evening we ate at Kumi, a Japaneese restaurant at Mandalay Bay. After dinner we ventured down to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and then to the Linq Premenade so I could check out the Sprinkles Cupcake ATM and we could take a look at the new shops and high roller ferris wheel.

Saturday it was time to head home. So after a second stop at the welcome sign, we were off to the airport and headed home to Portland and our pets. We had a great trip. Every time we travel together I'm always reminded of how much fun we have going on adventures together and how I couldn't ask for a better person to share all these memories with! I can't believe we are already over 26 weeks pregnant and how soon our little girl will be here. And while it will change our life, we both couldn't be more excited for the adventures and memories ahead!
