Harper - 1 Month!

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

I wrote this back when Harper was a month old, but just hadn't gotten around to posting it yet. I'm not sure how exactly the last month has flown by. It's hard to remember a time before Harper. Both Dan and I are completely and absolutely in love with her and just love having our complete little family! We've spent most of this month getting in the rhythm of new parenthood and showing off our little girl to family and friends. Our first few days home were filled with lots of visitors, but it has begun to taper off which has been nice. We try to get out of the house at least once a day whether it's for a walk or a trip to the store or for some grandparent snuggle time so that we don't go stir crazy! Thankfully both Dan and I were able to take several weeks off once Harper arrived so we've been enjoying our new life as a family of 3!
Nicknames: Harps, Harpy, Piglet, Turkey, Little One

Height & Weight: 10 lbs 2oz and 22 inches long

Food: She's just breastfeeding, but we are trying to incorporate a pumped bottle several times a week to help her get used to using one for when I go back to work and also to allow me a little bit of a break at times.

Sleep: She's currently sleeping pretty consistent 3 hour stretches. We are working on getting her to fall back asleep a little quicker and have tried a few different sleeping options to see what works best. Currently at night she's sleeping in the newborn napper part of the pack and play in our room and that seems to work best. During the day she likes to sleep in her swing.

Favorites: She loves car rides and walks and really anytime she's moving. She loves to eat and that definitely showed at her doctors appointments this month where she gained her birthweight back in nearly 3 days and was already up a pound over her birth weight at her 2 week check up!

Milestones: She rolled over for the first time when she was just over 2 weeks (I'm hoping it was a one time thing and she won't be inclined to start practicing her rolling anymore for a little while). We had our first few doctors appointments for both her and I postpartum.

Looking Forward To: Visits from out of town family over the next month!

This was taken on my due date, where I was supposed to be 40 weeks pregnant, but Harper was already two and a half weeks old! So thankful that we got an extra two and a half weeks with her!

First Family Trip

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

This past weekend we made our first adventure out of town for an overnight with not only myself, Dan and Harper but also Cooper (the dog). On Thursday morning we loaded up the car (literally loaded, we couldn't fit more than a few shopping bags from the outlet in there with all the stuff we brought) and headed to the beach. Thankfully we have the ability to use Dan's parents beach house whenever it isn't being used so we didn't have to take all the small things like towels, toiletries and food but it still seemed like we were packing for a month. When we decided to plan the overnight, I hadn't really thought about everything we would have to drag along and how packed full my CRV would be, but we made it down and back in once piece and were even able to pack in a few bags from the outlets on our way back!

Traveling with a baby is definitely different and makes things a bit more challenging. I was trying to time our drive times since it's an hour and a half drive, around her feedings. We had to bring enough diapers and wipes and clothes for three days incase we stayed longer. We also had to pack her rock and play for her to sleep in, breastfeeding stuff and her stroller. Combine that with our tendency to overpack on our own clothes and add in the dog and his travel  necessities and our car was full! I was a little nervous that we would forget something that we wouldn't be able to buy at the beach but we made it through the trip without any runs to the store, aside for buying more baby clothes for later.

We didn't do too much when we got down there besides relax, some shopping and some time in the sun. The weather was supposed to be less than stellar according to the weatherman, but much to our delight it was gorgeous! We fit in three walks on the beach, some strolling around town and a few walks around the neighborhood. We came back after one night so we could sleep in our own beds and so we could be sure to watch the Duck game on Saturday morning, but it was a great first family trip, and I'm sure Cooper would agree!
Clearly the traveling wore out Harper . . . and Dan too!

My How Things Change!

Monday, September 21, 2015

I'm not sure how it's been six whole weeks since we brought Harper home from the hospital. Life has been a bit of a whirlwind and as each day passes I'm amazed at how much has changed. While there are definitely parts of motherhood that have gone more smoothly than I anticipated, there are also aspects that are more difficult. As I type this I am sitting on the couch with Harper in my arms because she gets fussy when I tried to put her in her swing. So here I sit typing this on the notes section of my phone and I'll transfer it later. My how life changes so quickly. My goal is to get more blog posts up now that life is starting to get a bit more settled, but that may have to include more posts typed on my phone and edited later. Whatever works I suppose, but I miss my blogging community.

Motherhood has come fairly easily in most aspects. I'm absolutely head over heels in love with our little girl and it makes the sleepless nights so much easier. I'm thankful that dan has time off too and is able to be here to watch her change every day and to help me out on a daily basis. I truly am amazed at all of the moms who do it on their own right away. Dan is lucky enough to have a lot of available time off so we have really been enjoying our family time.

Before having Harper I would have been the first to tell you how much I love sleep, and while that love hasn't gone away, the amount of time I'm able to sleep on any given night has definitely changed. I figured that I would really struggle with the lack of sleep, but I'm surprised at how much easier it is than I thought it would be. Breastfeeding has also been another part of motherhood that has gone differently than I thought it would. I was never one of those women who was excited to breast feed but wanted to try it and do it as long as it was working for Harper and I. While it definitely hasn't been the easiest thing and I still don't love it, it has gone so well for Harper!

So in between feedings and cuddles, we've been busy decorating the house with lots of fall decor, finishing up decorating other areas of our house and canning lots of apples and other tasty recipes which I plan on getting back to sharing. Hopefully I haven't lots all readers in between my hiatus and my plethora of baby related posts. I do still have a few more up my sleeve, but I'll try to space those out a bit. So that's what we've been up to around these parts!

For moms or moms to be, what are ways you relax or are planning to get some me time with a little one?

New Poppy & Mimi Gifts

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

From the day we surprised my parents with the news that they were going to be grandparents, they have been spoiling both Dan and Me and the baby. My parents have always been a huge source of support and friendship in my life, and when I got pregnant it was no different. I don't think you truly appreciate your parents until you become one, so as I was preparing to welcome our little girl into the world, I wanted to do something to thank my parents for everything they had done for us, especially during my pregnancy. Being Etsy obsessed like I am lately, I headed there first. I had an idea of what I wanted but wasn't sure what was available, or if what I was just creating in my head was never to actually be found. Much to my delight, I found the perfect gift for each of them.

I wanted something with their new granddaughter's name on it, and also with the name they will be called. I have called my dad Poppy for years, so it was quickly decided that that's what his grandkids will call him. Figuring out what to call my mom took a little more work. After thinking on it for a while, finding this pin, and talking to her, we decided on Mimi. So I decided to incorporate their names into the gifts as well, and here's what we came up with.

I designed my Mom's gift with Blue Eyed Jewels where I was able to choose what name (or names) I wanted hand  stamped in the pendant necklace along with which birthstones or beads I wanted added to it. Sherrie was awesome to work with, and just an hour after I placed the order I got the shipping notification. Talk about speedy service!

For my Dad's gift I knew I wanted something similar to my Mom's, but obviously not a necklace. I decided on a hand stamped bangle, since I had gotten him bangle gifts in the past that he loved. So when I came across faeriekissage Studio, I knew I had found what I was looking for. In order to make it less feminine, I had the message stamped on the inside and the outside just a hammered look. The message I went with was "Best Poppy Ever - Harper Robin". He loves it and has yet to take it off!

Since no one besides Dan and I knew the name we had chosen until she was born, it was fun to be able to design gifts for my parents with their new granddaughter's name incorporated in it. I know they will be the best Mimi and Poppy! Did you create any new grandparent gifts when you had a baby? I'd love to hear what other fun ideas people came up with for new gifts!

Hot Air Balloon Nursery Reveal

Monday, September 7, 2015

It's finally time to share our nursery reveal with all of you! If you remember back a few months I shared my nursery inspiration with all of you, but I haven't shared much more since then. I've been talking about my ideas and work on the nursery for months and I really couldn't be happier with how it turned out! And because I love this room so much, I've really made an effort to spend lots of time with Harper in her room with her whether it's feeding or changing her or rocking her in the glider or reading her a book. I just love this room and hope that as she grows that she loves it as much as I do.

One of the first things I knew when thinking of a room was that I wanted my dad to paint something on her wall. When my brother and I were little, my dad painted something in each of our rooms so I wanted our little girl to share the same fun memories of her room. I didn't want something overly busy or in your face so I decided on subtle hot air balloon accents throughout. But instead of me blabbing on and on about every detail, I'll let the photos do the talking! I tried to list all the major items at the bottom of the post if you're interested in where we purchased any of them, but if I missed one, feel free to ask. The only major item I didn't list was the dresser because that was the same dresser/changing table we used when my brother was little and we just repainted it and got new knobs. I hope you love the space as much as we do!

Harper's Newborn Photos

Friday, September 4, 2015

After having our maternity photos taken by Myah from Glo Photography, I couldn't wait to have her take Harper's newborn pictures once she arrived. So on the day Harper was born, I emailed Myah to set up a time to have her come shoot her pictures. She came right to the house when Harper was 6 days old and spend over 4 hours taking pictures of her room, Harper and our new little family! I couldn't be happier with how they turned out & I'm not sure how I'm going to decide which photos to print and hang up around the house! Take a look for yourself and let me know which your favorites are!
