Weeks 21-22 Bumpdate

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Week: 21 & 22 since I got behind and don't want to bombard you with multiple bumpdate posts. I am going to start posting these every Wednesday so I am on more of a schedule and it will end up being posted on the last day of whichever week I'm on since I start a new week on Thursdays

Total Weight Gain: between 8-9 pounds based on our at home scale. This seems to fluctuate a bit but is also pretty consistent with the doctors office.

Gender: A Little Girl! We finally choose a name this past week and have had so much fun talking about her by name now (although we are still keeping this a secret from everyone till she's born)

Symptoms: Feeling much more tired this week, but keeping active which is helping.

Cravings: Definitely more sweets as of late. I find myself every evening wanting something sweet, usually ice cream. I may need to start buying sherbet or yogurt to try to make it at least a little healthier. Or better yet, I'll start making my homemade banana ice cream and share a recipe with all of you while I'm at it!

Sleep: This seems to be hit or miss. Some nights are good and other's not so much. It usually depends on how many times I wake up to either use the bathroom, readjust my body pillow or because the little girl is having a dance party in my stomach.

Clothes: Definitely more maternity clothes! I've invested in a few more items from Pink Blush Maternity & Old Navy. Some days I feel like my bump is really pronounced and other's not so much.

Workouts: Staying on track this week. My goal has been to get out and go for walks at least 4-5 times a week and I hit that this past week. I am also using my Nike Fuel Band to help track my steps and trying to hit my Fuel Goal each day! And as you can tell from the photo above, Dan and I also got out and went on a hike this weekend which was fun, but definitely wore me out!

Nursery: This room is coming along a lot faster than we thought it would! We picked out and purchased her bedding along with the crib mattress and protector. We are using the same changing table/dresser that we used when my brother was little so Dan sanded that this week and we will paint it and add new drawer knobs before moving it into the nursery. I also picked out some color swatches to use when out searching for other decor and for the painting my dad will do in the nursery.

Movement: ALL THE TIME! And Dan finally felt her move a little this week which was really fun. I can definitely tell she's getting stronger and bigger because her kicks are becoming stronger and stronger. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't make me a little nervous for how strong she's going to get and how the kicks are going to feel in a few weeks.

Best Moment This Week: We got to see her again for our repeat ultrasound since she was moving around too much and in the wrong position last time!

Missing: Sleeping on my stomach, this has been a hard adjustment for me. I'm also missing all the cute summer clothes that are coming out that I can't buy, but I'm making up for it by buying adorable little girl outfits and some maternity pieces to get me through the summer.

A Little Friday Conversation

Friday, April 24, 2015

Happy Friday! This week has seemed fairly long so I am even more excited for the weekend than normal! But since it has seemed so long, I have lots of randomness floating through my head, so I figured I'd share that today! I am also choosing conversations with some awesome ladies, so make sure to check that out as well! So before I blabber on too much more, here's some thoughts for your Friday.

One: Did any of you watch Grey's Anatomy with the rest of my Facebook and Twitter friends last night? This pregnant gal can not take Shonda Rhimes and her roller coaster of emotions that she had me on last night. First I was balling at the end of Grey's and then two minutes later I'm at the edge of my seat bed shocked that Jake may still be alive in Scandal! I can't take this late night craziness Shonda! How's a tired pregnant gal supposed to get any sleep!

Two: Is anyone else excited for the Bruce Jenner interview tonight? It's pretty fun how excited my dad is to watch it, he even told me last night we need to all watch it together. Who knew he was such a fan? Although he does love watching entertainment tonight. haha I'm really intrigued to see what all they cover in the two hour special, and just in case I can't stay awake till 11pm on a Friday night (real party animal over here) I have it set to tape on my DVR.

Three: I've come to realize it was much cheaper and easier on my wallet before we knew if we were having a boy or a girl. Don't get me wrong, I am so happy to finally know and to be able to start buying stuff for our little girl, but my spending has definitely increased in the past couple weeks! We had made a lot of progress on the nursery and I can't wait to continue to add to her space! Oh and we may or may not have decided on a name this week too while we were sitting and admiring her room one evening. But unfortunately for you we are keeping the name a secret until she's born!

Four: Does anyone else like to pass time in their car by listening to podcasts? I drive about forty minutes to and from work every day and get bored of just listening to music so I like to download podcasts and listen to them, but I'm thinking about also adding some books on tape to my playlist. Does anyone have any suggestions of their favorite podcasts or books I should add to my drive?

Five: The past few weeks I have really began to appreciate even more this crazy world of blogging we live in. Throughout most of my pregnancy I had been able to share the milestones, questions, weird feelings and all over emotions with some of my favorite bloggers who happen to be going through the same things as I am. It's amazing how close you can become with someone who you've never even met in person and who lives on the other side of the country. I am truly thankful for our daily emails, random texts and the support and friendship I have gained through blogging!

Before I go, don't forget to come link up and checkout these awesome ladies!

Surviving the First 13 - My First Trimester Must Haves

Thursday, April 23, 2015

Now that I'm over halfway done with my pregnancy and way past the first trimester, it's probably a good time to share some of the things I loved during that helped me survive my first trimester. I was very lucky in the sense that I didn't get sick too often, but was nauseous most of the time from 7-14 weeks. The first trimester can be rough because you're not feeling well, but most people don't know the real reason why. You end up either trying to put on the best happy face you can, or you stay inside on the couch as much as possible. During my first few weeks of being pregnant I found myself constantly googling and searching for other blogs with first trimester tips, trying to make sure what I was feeling was normal and seeing what other ladies at the same time of pregnancy were going through. So now that I'm out of that phase, I figured I'd share some of the things that really helped me so that maybe someone else will benefit like I did.

A Belly Band: I didn't notice myself gaining too much weigh and still haven't gained much, but by week 7 I was bloated and everything just felt uncomfortable by the end of the day. The belly band was my go to for weeks to help feel as comfortable as possible especially in work clothes! Since I was experiencing those first few weeks during the winter, dresses weren't always an option, so the belly band was my go to for several weeks!

Jolly Ranchers: I've read lots of places that people really found pregnancy pops to be helpful when dealing with nausea, but I had a friend recommend jolly ranchers and these seemed to due the trick. Something about having something sweet to suck on really helped soothe my upset stomach and cure any sweetness cravings I might have been having.

Peppermint Oil: I was nauseous from the minute I woke up until I went to bed at night. I would put a couple drops of peppermint oil on my stomach every morning as I was getting dressed and it helped so much. On days it was really bad I would put a little on my forehead so I could smell it even more. If you're up for a strong smell or using essential oils, peppermint and spearmint oil helped me through my pregnancy morning sickness and second trimester headaches.

Water: From early on in my pregnancy I found myself thirsty all the time. Since I was trying to cut out caffeine, having a water bottle nearby helped keep me hydrated and keep me from reaching for that soda! For me, I notice I drink WAY more water if I'm always carrying a water bottle with me, so I made sure to find one that was easy to throw in a bag or carry with me and that also fit in the cup holders in my car so that I could always keep it with me.

Prenatal Vitamins: I started taking these a few months before we started trying and have continued to take them daily through my pregnancy. The ones I found I liked the best happened to be the gummy ones, but as long as you're taking one, my doctor said the brand wasn't a huge issue. I found that taking them at night before I went to sleep helped keep them from making my stomach upset.

Ginger Ale: When I was dealing with the all day sickness instead of just morning sickness, I read over and over again that ginger was one of the best remedies. Well I am not a fan of plain ginger, so ginger ale and ginger capsules became my go to. I tried not to have more than one a day just due to the amount of sugar in them, but ginger ale really seemed to help calm my stomach.

Cheerios: When I woke up in the mornings, one of the first things I wanted was something to eat. After having an upset stomach all night long, I needed something in my belly before heading to work or I would feel nauseous all day long. Cheerios were my go to every morning! Something about the fact that they are carbs and fairly bland always sat well in my stomach and helped with my curvy back road drive to work.

Yoga Pants: Once I hit about 9 weeks, anything tight on my stomach for too long was very uncomfortable, so as soon as I got home every evening I jumped into my yoga pants!

Saltine Crackers: The biggest thing that helped keep my stomach happy was having food in it all the time, so I carried crackers with me in my purse, kept some in my desk, had some next to my bed, and carried some in my car.

These are just some of the things that helped me get through those first few weeks. While it can feel a little lonely when no one else really knows about your little surprise yet, and you're feeling so crappy, try to make yourself as comfortable as possible! What are some of the things that you've found helpful during your first trimester?

Our Nursery Inspiration

Monday, April 20, 2015

Pretty soon after finding out we were expecting, I headed to Pinterest to start brainstorming ideas for our little boy or girls nursery. Of course I kept all my boards secret (thank you to whoever came up with that idea!) and started pinning away. The boy nursery ideas came easier than the girl, similar to the names but after some searching We finally found some inspiration we both really liked.

I've always wanted a nursery that was classy and simple with small touches or character. When we found out we were having a girl, my inspiration was sealed and I knew what theme I was going to go with, hot air balloons. I'm hoping for solid colored bedding and curtains and some hot air balloon accents in the decor and prints. I'm also having my dad do a small painting in the corner of the room near where the rocker will sit. When we were waiting for my bother to arrive once we were placed with a baby for his adoption, my dad painted a mural in his nursery. And when I was older, we together painted clouds on my ceiling. Having paintings that my dad helped with has always been something I wanted to add to my child's room one day and I am excited to be able to see that come to reality.

Here are some of the images we are using to help lead our design of the room . . .
When looking back over all the images I had pinned for inspiration, I had pinned this one three times. I guess that's sort of a hint that I like it. I hope to use this same color scheme of navy, coral and gold in our little girl's nursery.

I love how clean yet feminine this room is and also love some of the hot air balloon prints incorporated.

While this room has more of an overall carnival theme, I love the hot air balloons they used!

And finally, this print is the first decor item for the nursery and what I'm using for the inspiration behind it all!

I can't wait to see how it all comes together! It has been so fun searching for items to add to our little girl's room and I just can't wait to see it all finished and watch her grow and enjoy the room! Do you have any places you found great items for your nursery?

Bumpdate Update - 20 Weeks

Friday, April 17, 2015

Week: 20 - I'm really 21 as of yesterday, but I've been updating a week later so I can recap the week

Total Weight Gain - About 7 pounds so far

Gender - A Girl!!

Symptoms - Trouble sleeping and staying asleep, feeling more winded when I get up to do stuff,

Cravings - I've been really craving more sweets lately and have been loving a little bit of sweetness in Cliff Bars. I've been trying just to use those as a snack at work when I really want something sweet so that I am still getting some protein and not just reaching for the chocolate.

Sleep - This has definitely been hit or miss the last week or so. One night I'll sleep good and the next I will be up on and off all night. My mom says that it's just preparing me for what lies ahead and it seems to be that our little girl will want to wake up at 5am every morning

Clothes - Definitely loving maternity pants, but still wearing some non maternity tops. I am most comfortable in dresses or skirts though, so I am looking forward to the weather warming up a bit so I can wear more of those to work

Workouts - This week I have definitely been lacking and need to get my butt out the door and at least fit in a few walks, although between running lots of errands, being busy at work and registering, I have definitely gotten my steps in

Nursery - Just starting to add a few more things and really starting to plan now that we know it's a girl. I will share some of my inspiration photos soon.

Movement - This little girl loves to move around and kick. It seems like anytime I'm really sitting still she's moving or kicking, which is why we had such a hard time getting all the images needed at our ultrasound last week. But I'm not complaining because that just means we get to go back and see her again in a couple weeks!

Best Moment This Week - Definitely finding out that our little baby was a girl and getting to share that experience with our friends and family.

Missing - being able to sleep on my stomach! I feel like I am having a tougher time getting comfortable at night and definitely missing my normal sleeping positions!

Tiptoeing through the tulips

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Springtime in the Pacific Northwest can be difficult to judge. One minute it will be sunny and the next there will be a downpour. Since it rains all throughout the winter and for much of the spring, any sunny or just dry day is a day to take advantage of and get outside. So that is exactly what Dan and I did last weekend.

One of our favorite spring time traditions is to attend the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. There is so much to do, and every year they add even more. From a 4 acre event garden to 40 acres of tulip fields, there are activities for everyone to enjoy, especially me and my camera! The festival length varies from year to year depending on the growing season and the weather. This year the tulips were in full bloom early than normal, so we made sure to make it out to the festival before we missed out! But don't worry, there's still plenty of time to make it out to Woodburn for some photos, children's games and a fun spring day! The festival runs until May 3rd this year.

Here are some of my favorites from this year's trip:

And here are some of my favorite photos from past trips to the festival:

Our Fun Sunday Surprise

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

First off, thank you to everyone who has sent sweet messages or texts! Dan and I couldn't be more excited to find out what we are having! I guess we don't have any more excuses not to register or start some of the planning.

This weekend we hosted our family and some of our close friends at our house to find out whether we were having a boy or a girl. We had our ultrasound Friday morning, so we only had to wait a couple days to find out for sure. We both really wanted to wait until we could find out with our friends and family and I think we are both really happy that we did.

When thinking about how to reveal the gender, I wanted something where no one besides the ultrasound tech and a stranger would know. So I decided on a confetti filled balloon. I purchased two black balloons from The Pink Poodle Boutique, one filled with pink confetti and one with blue and took it to the party store on saturday morning along with our envelope that had the gender revealing ultrasound in it and asked them to fill up whichever balloon they were supposed to. The ladies there were great and were even so concerned that we might find out that they wouldn't open anything or fill up the balloon until we left the store. I couldn't have been happier with how the balloon turned out. I ended up paying for extra confetti and asked for two different colors just for fun and it was perfect!

We had everyone over around noon for a lunch time get together. I helped dan make some pulled pork sandwiches along with fruit salad, wraps and of course tasty doughnut holes. That along with some appetizers a few people brought and a couple different punches we had a fun tasty lunch together. Of course my mom couldn't wait to pop the balloon so once everyone arrived we decided to pop the balloon before enjoying the food.

I made cowgirl & cowboy cookie jars for everyone to take home as a party favor - You can find the directions and printables Here

My parents, brother & his girlfriend and Dan & me - So glad they could all be there to celebrate
My parents along with Dan's mom - all the grandparents together!

To say I was shocked was an understatement. All along I had been thinking it was a boy, up until the past week where I started to think maybe it was a girl. I tried my hardest to really convince myself I had no idea, and I really think I would have felt just as surprised if it had been blue confetti. Dan had thought all along that it was going to be a girl, up until the ultrasound when he switched his vote. Each guest took their guesses before popping the balloon and upon the reveal many people switched their vote so that they would "support" the gender, when really they just didn't want to be wrong.

It was the perfect day and such a fun way to find out all together!
