5 Concoctions For A Healthy Digestive System

For ages, we have relied on our grandma’s home remedies to cure common digestive problems. These concoctions provide relief from common digestive problems and strengthen the immune system. Let’s bring to the fore a few of those tried and tested remedies. These easy to make recipes will surely brighten your day.

1. Blended spice tea

Make a concoction composed of 2 to 3 small sticks of cinnamon, a clove of cardamom, 2 to 3 pieces of black pepper and half an inch of freshly grated ginger. Boil all the ingredients in a cup of water for 5 minutes. This concoction is enough for one person. Cinnamon acts as a great digestive aid and ginger is a natural nausea reliever and has anti-inflammatory property. It also acts a great natural cleanser and works as a mild laxative.

Prepare a concoction by adding half a lemon’s juice and a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water, salt as per taste can be added. This mixture acts as a natural analgesic.  Baking soda curbs acid reflux syndromes while lemon acts as a good source of vitamin C. People on a low sodium diet should avoid it.

Prepare your own buttermilk or use the store-bought one. Add a teaspoon of roasted cumin seeds powder to a cup of yogurt, throw in a few coriander leaves, churn it in a mixer grinder, and stop before the butter starts separating. This can also be used as a soothing summer freshener. This sour tasting drink also helps with weight loss.

4. Lemon mint tea

Freshly grate, a one-inch piece of ginger, crush a few mint leaves, a teaspoon of honey and fresh lemon juice each. Add these to a cup of boiling hot water and let it steep for 15 minutes. Both honey and ginger have antioxidants which strengthen the immunity system. Mint is a great appetizer and promotes appetite. This tea prevents nausea and instantly refreshes and reenergizes the body.

5. Dandelion root tea

Once considered weeds, dandelions are proving to be a miraculous herb species. Dandelion roots have diuretic properties and restore potassium. Cut the roots into small pieces. Lightly roast the raw roots on a heavy bottomed pan, see to it they don’t get burnt. Add an inch of ginger, a teaspoon of dried chamomile, and two heap teaspoons of processed dandelion roots to five cups of boiling water. Let it sit for some time. This drink also works as a liver detoxifier and prevents diabetics.
